Why I started Little Hands Learning
Hello, and thank you for popping in.
For as long as I can remember, I have loved working and spending time with children. Their honesty, innocence and sense of openness are such a breath of fresh air.
I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve arrived at work bogged down with my “adulting” affairs, only for the children to start trickling in, settling down and suddenly I find myself smiling.
The stories they share, the questions they ask and their innocent out-of-this-world ideas never cease to amaze me.
One lovely young boy once asked if he could sleep at work so he wouldn’t have to spend time going home and then waiting a whole week before he could come back again to play.
Naturally, I asked him what he planned to do about food and school.
Without missing a beat, he told me his mummy would figure it out. I mean, these little people are just special.
It’s moments like these that have stayed with me over the years.
And somehow, a little blog idea started creeping in. The idea would pop into my head, I’d get super excited about it, and then I’d quietly put it away again.
Oh, I bet you know exactly what I’m talking about. Right?
If I’m being honest, fear was my main reason for never taking the next step 🙃
The idea of sharing my thoughts with the whole world felt a bit too much. What if nobody read them? What if I wasn’t a good writer? What if I started and couldn’t keep going?
But no matter how long I put the idea aside, the nudge to come back to it never really went away.
So here I am.
Still a little scared, but also excited to finally begin.
What Fascinates Me Most
What fascinates me is the way children approach the world.
They ask questions adults would never think to ask.
They notice things we adults don’t.
They aren’t afraid to get muddy or imagine the impossible.
Give them a little space, a chance to explore and something interesting to discover and they’ll often create their own fun.

What You Will Find Here
Children are all different, some are happiest running outdoors, chasing bugs others making muddy puddles as they were taught by Peppa Pig.
Some can spend hours painting, drawing, building lego blocks. My son loves sitting with play-dough to sculpt dinosaurs especially their heads. He even breaks toothpicks into tiny pieces to use as their teeth.
I’ve seen children turn farms into adventures, cardboard boxes at a playground into trucks and ordinary afternoons into memories that stay with them.
That’s really what Little Hands Learning is all about. Celebrating the many different ways children play and learn.
These are the areas I’ll be exploring here:
- Nature & Farm Play
- Creative Play
- Outdoor Play
- Indoor Play
- Sensory Play
And with that, I think you’ve got a pretty good idea of where I’m headed. I really hope you get something useful from here on.
Thanks again for stopping by!
